Response from Edward Crim, Candidate for US Representative - District 3

1. What do you view as the key role, and/or attributes needed, for this position?

I believe that our congressional representative should stand up for the best interests of the people of the 3rd district. He or she should be independent, available to the constituency , able to articulate and defend positions and ready to speak civilly with those whose opinions differ.

2. What experience / attributes do you have that qualify you for this position?

I am experienced in dealing with others in a friendly and effective way. I am willing to talk with others even when they are upset and angry. I do not give in to pressure to conform for the sake of conformity. I research issues and am able to separate fact from fiction, wishful thinking from careful analysis. I speak my mind courteously and with respect. I am willing to work long and hard for projects that bring me no material benefit but are good for the collective.

3. Why do you think you are the best person for this position? What differentiates you from your opponent(s) (if applicable)?

I am a leader , not a follower. I am open and forthright without being blunt or curt. I work well with others. I am fiscally responsible and deeply concerned about the sustainable of our vital social programs.

4. What do you feel are the most pressing issues currently facing this office?

Unsustainable Government spending.
A refusal to deal with an oppressive national debt
Increasing voter disaffection
The potential for Republican control of Congress
Never-ending war in Afghanistan & Iraq
Institutions that are “too big to fail”

5. What plans do you have for addressing these issues? (please be specific)

Regular meetings with constituents and a push to move congressional voting into the 21st century (provide for voting from the home district).
Trim spending in all government departments.
Put temporary surcharges on alcohol, electronics, & other luxury goods
Quit spending like a drunken Republican!
Let Hamid Karzi try things on his own & bring our troops home
Bring banking back to the state level by breaking up all interstate banks, separate investment banking from saving and loan institutions,
Restrict the size of investment banks, forbid overleveraging, carefully analyze and control new investment vehicles and require a 5 year delay on all executive compensation awards, to allow for clawback

6. What particular strengths would help you defeat other party opponents (if applicable) in the November general election?

I am a good public speaker willing to go toe to toe with the Republican good old boys
I am friendly and connect well with average people.
I always tell the truth
I am ready and willing to actually campaign!
