Thank you to the candidates who appeared at our Candidates Forum!

Thank you to all of the candidates for the August 2014 Democratic primary who appeared or sent a surrogate to our candidates forum on May 8th at the Carpenter Branch Library on South Grand.  We had a great turn-out of 15th Ward Dems, neighbors and several Democrats from other wards to hear from the candidates.

All 3 candidates for Recorder of Deeds - Jimmie Mathews, Sharon Quigley Carpenter, and Ed McFowland - were in attendance as were Mavis Thompson and Jeffrey Boyd who are both running for License Collector.  Gregg Daly's Deputy Collector - Tom Vollmer - appeared for Gregg who was out of town.  And Steve Engelhardt spoke on behalf of Congressman Clay.  Finally, our own State Rep. Mike Colona (Dist. 80) - running unopposed in the primary - spoke with us as well.

All candidates and their surrogates answered questions from the audience and topics of discussion ranged from automation/updating operations in current city offices to the role of tax breaks to keeping businesses in St. Louis City to Benghazi.

Thank you also to the Democratic Committeemen and Committeewomen from other wards in the city who were able to join us for the evening.

The next step is for the eligible voting members of the 15th Ward Democrats to meet, discuss the candidates, and vote on endorsements.  The endorsements will be announced to the candidates and then to the public on this website and via Facebook and Twitter.

Do you live in the 15th Ward and want to participate in a more active way in ward, city, state and national Democratic politics?  If so, come join the 15th Ward Democrats!  Membership is inexpensive ($10).  Participation is made easy due to the many fun events we host throughout the year (Pride Parade float; annual picnic in Tower Grove Park; parties; voter registration drives; GOTV; canvassing for candidates; etc.) and it's easy to become an eligible voting member.

As an open ward organization -- in which the members of the ward organization determine the endorsements and where the membership is open to all Democrats -- we welcome all new members who want to be active.  We're even glad to have Democrats from other wards in the city join us as honorary members!

For more information about membership, please contact us at info@15thward.org or join us at one of our monthly meetings which are held on the fourth Thursdays of most months.  Please follow our website for meeting announcements.
